Praying together on Sunday: Philippians 4:6 says that we should “not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” This is something that we also do together as a church family on Sunday mornings. However, now that we are gathering on Zoom as well as in three different locations at the church in Etna, sharing our prayer requests and praises with one another can be challenging. But we have a solution! If you would like to share a prayer request or praise with your church family, Pastor Chris would like to invite you to do one of the following:
1. During the week, email your prayer request directly to him and let him know whether or not you would like your prayer request or praise shared with the church.
2. If you are attending in-person on Sunday, before or during the prelude, write your request and set it in the basket that is set up at the sanctuary entrance. Pastor Chris will take all the written prayers that are there and share them with the church.
3. If you are attending via Zoom on Sunday, before or during the prelude, type your request in the chat. Pastor Chris will read those requests out loud and share them with the church.
We hope this will make it easier for everyone to share their prayers and praises with the whole church, no matter how they are attending on Sunday morning.
Bible Study: This Sunday, May 9 at 7:00 pm, Pastor Chris is hosting an information evening for a new bible study that will begin mid-May. The bible study is called “How to Read the Bible”. This study is for everyone, no matter how much experience you may or may not have with the bible. The bible is a large book, but it doesn’t have to be intimidating. Dates and times are still being decided but if you are interested in finding out more, join us Sunday, May 9 at 7:00pm in Trumbull Hall. If you’re interested but would prefer to attend via Zoom, email Pastor Chris directly.
Outreach: Our next outreach project is a collection of items for Maynard House (previously the Upper Valley Hostel) which provides friendly, comforting and affordable lodging for patients and their families who are receiving treatment and care at local hospitals.
They are in need of Disinfecting wipes, Dishwasher pods, Laundry detergent, Trash bags—large kitchen and small 4 gallon size; any band is okay for these items. Items can be left on the serving table in Trumbull Hall until May 16. This is another great opportunity to reach out and share our Christian Love with others.
Kids’ Fridays continue: The successful Friday afternoon/evening kids’ get-togethers at the field adjacent to the Etna church continue! The next one will be tonight (May 7), and another is planned for May 14.
Drive-Through Ham and Bean Supper: Mark your calendars – Saturday, May 15, 2021, for a drive-through version of the famous Ham and Bean Supper! Delicious ham, homemade baked beans, coleslaw, homemade rolls, and cookies will be served on a to-go basis – $10 per meal suggested donation. Meals will be available for pick up from 4:30-6:00 pm. Reservations may be made by calling Norma Pelton. Twenty-five meals will be available to be picked up every 15 minutes from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. We are hoping to sell 150 meals this year. This is a community event so tell your neighbors about it!
Posters are available at church if you’d like to post one (or more!) in places you frequent.
Hanover Center Chicken Barbecue June 26, 2021: The Hanover Center Fair Committee has decided not to hold the Fair in 2021 due to continuing concerns with COVID-19. In lieu of the Fair, the Committee is planning a take-out Chicken Barbecue dinner during what would have been Fair weekend (Saturday, June 26). The great success of the Chicken Pie Supper in October has encouraged us to try this.
A raffle will also be part of the event, with raffle tickets included in the price of the dinner so everyone has opportunity to win! In an effort to help small local businesses as well as raise funds for the church, the Committee is hoping to get monetary donations from church family members and community members that will be used to buy gift certificates at local businesses. The gift certificates will be part of the raffle prize list. This will serve the dual purpose of supporting our church’s mission to help others in the community and simultaneously raise money for the church.
Details are still be decided for the event, but in the meantime, ways the church family can help at this time are:
-Mark your calendars for June 26th and plan to get a take-out dinner that night.
-Offer a contribution - a prize from your business or asking for one from a friend’s business, a monetary donation, your time and labor - all are welcome and appreciated.
-Attend the Committee planning meetings (the next meeting will be via Zoom on May 19 @ 6:30 pm). Contact the church or Jeff Balch if you would like the videoconference meeting information.
Many hands make light work, so we welcome your help with this event. If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Balch.
